Abstract:
The White Tiger is a narrative of Balram Halwai, who was born in the ‘darkness’ and desires to escape the poverty that surrounds him. It has been widely critiqued through both an optimistic and critical lens. Many researchers have attempted post-colonial readings, subaltern approaches and animal studies approaches. This paper attempts a Marxist reading of the novel. It explores three different prospects of the theory within the novel. These aspects include socio-economic structures, the evolution of these paradigms within Balram's life and their savagery. It also highlights certain characteristics of the novel's narrative technique. Subsequently, this can help bring to light the flaws of the socio-economic structures of the nation and the relentless consequences resulting from these flaws.
